A Spirit Baby Meditation for TTC, IVF, and the Two-Week Wait

A simple vocal practice inspired by Walter Makichen’s Spirit Babies for women who want to bring more intention, tenderness, and spiritual connection into their conception journey.

Trying to conceive can make life feel like a series of numbers, appointments, tests, and carefully timed decisions. You may find yourself tracking every symptom, analyzing every change, and wondering whether there is one more thing you should be doing.

There is value in understanding your body and receiving appropriate medical care. But there is also a part of this journey that cannot always be measured: the need to feel grounded, hopeful, connected, and held.

The Spirit Baby Conception Chant is a gentle practice that offers a place to soften. It does not ask you to force an outcome or pretend that the waiting is easy. It simply creates a few quiet moments in which you can reconnect with your breath, your heart, your womb space, and—if this belief resonates with you—the spirit of the baby you hope to welcome.

I created a free 20-minute sung recording of the chant so you do not have to memorize it or wonder how to begin. You can listen while resting, walking, doing a castor oil pack, or following an appropriately timed yoni-steaming practice.

What Is a Spirit Baby Conception Chant?

The Conception Chant comes from Spirit Babies: How to Communicate with the Child You’re Meant to Have by Walter Makichen, a clairvoyant counselor and spiritual teacher whose work explored the energetic and spiritual dimensions of conception.

Makichen described conscious conception as something that can include the physical creation of a child as well as an intentional, loving connection with a future baby. Within his spiritual framework, he taught that meditation, visualization, and chanting could be used to create what he called a “conception cradle”—an energetic space of love, welcome, and acceptance.

The chant uses the vocal sounds:

SO, AH, A, AH, SU, AH, OH

What Do the Sounds Mean?

Walter Makichen shares the Conception Chant and its overall spiritual intention in Spirit Babies, but he does not define each sound individually in the section where the chant appears.

The interpretation below reflects the energetic journey I experience when singing the sequence—moving through invitation, love, grounding, clearing, and unity:

  • SO — Invitation and Connection: A call to higher consciousness and an invitation to connect with the spirit of the baby you hope to welcome.

  • AH — Love and Acceptance: The heart center and the vibration of openness, unconditional love, and acceptance.

  • A — Grounding: The root chakra and the intention of grounding spirit into physical life.

  • AH — Returning to the Heart: Coming back to love, softness, and acceptance.

  • SU — Clearing: A purifying sound associated with releasing fear, doubt, emotional wounds, and energetic blockages.

  • AH — Unconditional Love: Returning once more to the loving intention at the heart of conscious conception.

  • OH — Unity and Welcome: Wholeness, connection, and an opening of the heart to the baby you hope to welcome.

You do not need to memorize these meanings or focus on each one for the chant to be meaningful. Allow the sequence to guide you through the breath, repetition, intention, and vibration of the sounds as they move through your body.

Makichen recommended chanting the sequence for at least three minutes and then becoming still and listening. He also encouraged using it informally—while walking, washing dishes, or moving through ordinary life. That simplicity is one of the things I love about it. A spiritual practice does not always have to be elaborate to feel meaningful.

Why I Created a Sung Version

My sister was the person who first recommended Spirit Babies to me. As I explored Makichen’s work, I was drawn to the Conception Chant and began incorporating it into fertility sessions—with each client’s knowledge and permission.

I found that singing the sounds made the sequence easier to remember and more natural to receive. For many people, repeatedly speaking unfamiliar syllables can feel intimidating or a little too “woo-woo.” Melody softens that resistance. Instead of worrying about whether you are saying everything correctly, you can follow the sound and allow your body to settle into the rhythm.

I recorded a 20-minute version intentionally. Twenty minutes fits naturally into the abdominal portion of a fertility-bodywork session, a castor oil pack, or a yoni-steaming practice. It gives the nervous system time to slow down and allows the repetition to become meditative without asking you to create the experience on your own.

You do not need to believe exactly what I believe—or exactly what Makichen believed—to use the recording. You can approach it as a spiritual invitation, a sound meditation, a breathing practice, or simply a quiet ritual that helps you return to yourself.

A Moment I Still Remember

One of the most meaningful experiences I have had with this work occurred during a fertility session with a client who was trying to conceive.

With her permission, I played the sung chant recording while performing gentle belly work. During the session, I felt what seemed like a small “kick” within her belly—even though she had not yet ovulated that month. I also heard the word Christmas.

I let her know what I experienced but did not present that to her as a prediction or a promise. Fertility is complex, and no spiritual impression can guarantee a pregnancy. But the moment stayed with me.

She conceived that cycle and later delivered her baby shortly after Christmas.

Was it the chant? The bodywork? Her own timing? Something spiritual that we cannot measure? I cannot claim to know. I share the story because it was a profound experience for both of us and because it reflects how this work can sometimes create moments of connection that feel larger than what we can explain.

The chant is not a fertility treatment, and it does not cause conception. For me, its value lies in creating a loving space in which a woman can feel connected to her body and to the possibility she is holding in her heart.

How Sound Can Support You During the Fertility Journey

Sound gives the mind a place to rest. When you follow a repeated melody, your attention can move away from constant problem-solving and back toward your breath and body.

That can be especially supportive when trying to conceive begins to feel like a full-time job. The chant offers a ritual that is not another test to pass. There is no perfect volume, no required singing voice, and no special spiritual ability needed.

You can chant aloud, hum gently, listen silently, or alternate between them. Some days you may feel deeply connected. On other days, you may simply feel a little calmer. Both experiences are valid.

This practice may help you:

  • Create intentional time for yourself during a demanding fertility journey.

  • Bring gentle awareness to your heart and womb space.

  • Slow your breathing and settle into a more restful state.

  • Express love and welcome toward a hoped-for baby.

  • Feel emotionally supported during treatment, waiting, or uncertainty.

  • Reconnect with hope without demanding certainty from yourself.

These are supportive emotional and spiritual experiences—not promises of pregnancy or substitutes for reproductive healthcare.

How to Use the Conception Chant

There is no single perfect way to use the recording. Choose the version that feels sustainable and comforting to you.

As a simple daily practice

Sit or lie somewhere comfortable. Allow your spine to feel supported, place a hand over your heart or lower abdomen if that feels good, and take several unhurried breaths. Play the recording and listen, hum, or sing along.

When it ends, remain still for a moment. Notice what you feel without searching for a sign or judging the experience. Connection may arrive as warmth, emotion, a mental image, a sense of calm—or simply a few moments of quiet.

During everyday activities

You can also play or softly repeat the chant while walking, folding laundry, washing dishes, or preparing for bed. Makichen specifically taught that the chant did not have to be limited to formal meditation. Repetition during ordinary life can make the practice feel accessible rather than like one more obligation on your fertility checklist.

For safety, listen only when it will not distract you from driving, cooking, operating equipment, or another activity requiring your full attention.

With a castor oil pack

A castor oil pack and the 20-minute chant fit beautifully together as a quiet at-home ritual. Prepare your pack, get comfortable, and allow the recording to guide the resting portion of your practice.

Castor oil packs are generally used before ovulation when actively trying to conceive and should be stopped after ovulation unless your qualified healthcare professional advises otherwise. Do not place a castor oil pack over the abdomen during pregnancy or suspected pregnancy. Ask your healthcare provider before use if you have a medical condition, recent surgery, unexplained symptoms, or are undergoing fertility treatment.

With yoni steaming

The recording is also timed to accompany a 20-minute yoni-steaming practice. Once you are seated safely and comfortably, you can play the chant or alternate it with a womb meditation.

Yoni steaming should never be used during pregnancy or suspected pregnancy, active bleeding, an active pelvic or vaginal infection, or after ovulation when trying to conceive. Timing can also differ during IUI, IVF, medicated cycles, or when an IUD is present. Individual screening and proper temperature are important; steaming should never burn or feel excessively hot.

Can I Use the Chant During IVF, IUI, or the Two-Week Wait?

The chant itself is a gentle spiritual and relaxation practice, so you may continue listening during fertility treatment or the two-week wait. Once ovulation has occurred—or after an IUI or embryo transfer—pause castor oil packs and yoni steaming. Instead, rest your hands softly over your womb and allow the recording to support quiet connection.

You might listen while lying down, walking gently, journaling, or resting. Let the chant be a source of comfort rather than another fertility task you must perform “correctly” to achieve a particular outcome.

Always follow your medical team’s instructions regarding breathwork, vocalization, positioning, and complementary practices during treatment.

What If I Do Not Hear or Feel Anything?

You have not failed—and it does not mean you are disconnected from your future baby.

In Makichen’s spiritual teaching, a person might sit quietly after chanting and listen for an echo or response. That possibility may feel beautiful to some readers, but it should not become a test of your intuition or fertility.

Many people will not hear a voice, see an image, or receive an unmistakable sign. Your experience may be subtle. You might feel calmer, cry unexpectedly, notice warmth in your chest, or feel nothing unusual at all.

The purpose is not to prove that conception is near. The purpose is to make room for love, presence, and connection in a journey that can otherwise become consumed by pressure.

A Practice of Invitation, Not Control

One of the most important ways to approach this chant is as an invitation rather than an attempt to force conception.

You are not bargaining with your body, manifesting hard enough to earn a baby, or causing infertility if you miss a day. You are offering yourself and the child you hope to meet a few minutes of welcome and unconditional love.

That distinction matters. Fertility challenges are not caused by insufficient positivity, an energetic failure, or a lack of spiritual connection. Medical conditions, age, sperm factors, egg quality, anatomy, hormones, and many other realities can affect conception. Spiritual practices can sit beside appropriate care; they should never be used to blame someone for an outcome or replace evaluation and treatment.

Use the chant daily if it nourishes you. Use it occasionally if that feels better. Pause if it becomes emotionally overwhelming. The practice belongs to you.
